各位

長い間、日本は経済規模では世界第２位と思ってきましたが、どうも
第３位に転落したようです。世界銀行等による購買力平価為替レート
だとそうなるという話で、第２位はもちろん中国です。
経済には暗い小生にはなんともコメントできませんが、どなたか
ご教示くだされば幸いです。

Is Japan second? No!

Despite the frequent assertion that Japan is the second largest
economy in the world, it actually ranks as number three, behind the
US and China, according to the World Bank and the Penn World
Table using purchasing power parity exchange rates.

The rank of Japan over the years is shown in this table, below:

1950-51 7
1952-59 6
1960 7
1961-63 6
1964-65 4
1966-89 3
1990-97 2 USSR dissolves
1998- 3 China moves into 2nd place (World Bank)
